Making this piece brought me to tears… Lou Gehrig’s farewell speech can do that anytime on any day, because the amount of gratitude he shows in the face of physical adversity is something so special. Watching Babe Ruth tap has locker on the way out to his final game with a body that is obviously failing him and lift a cap to the crowd roaring at his presence shows that he was loved past his prime and that is something we all want in many aspects of our lives.
